Watch Behind-The-Scenes Footage Of Phish’s Memorable Sphere Las Vegas Residency

When Phish decided to play Sphere in Las Vegas they recruited their longtime creative partners The Moment Factory to create visuals for the over 60 songs the band would perform over the course of the four-night run. The Moment Factory shared a six-minute mini-documentary which gives fans a look at all the work that went into making the residency a resounding success.

Phish and The Moment Factory started collaborating together nine years ago. The company has provided multimedia elements for seven Phish concerts since 2015 including numerous New Year’s Eve shows. Sphere gave The Moment Factory a canvas unlike any other to push creative boundaries. “Sphere has always been a subject of Moment Factory since we first heard about it,” said Moment Factory producer Daniel Jean. “Coming here with Phish, for us, was just amazing. It was like we’re coming into some territory that we know, but until you really step in it’s really hard to grasp the potential of the venue.”

Early on in the process, The Moment Factory and Phish agreed on the themes for the four nights: solid, liquid, gas and plasma. Using the four states of matter gave the company four different aspects to explore that were tied together. The team then went ahead and created a unique show for each night. The Moment Factory team used virtual reality to develop the visuals and create immersive environments.

The mini-doc starts with scenes from Moment Factory’s offices and the moves to soundchecks at Sphere. Members of Phish are seen checking out the visuals from seats in the venue and working out “Farmhouse” on-stage. Footage from the rehearals gives way to footage from the actual shows. “I’ve never experienced anything like this before,” Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio said on the night of the final concert. “It’s some kind of completely new form of entertainment.”
