Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band Begin Family Reunion Weekend At Terrapin Crossroads

Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band got their three-concert Family Reunion Weekend run underway on Friday. The show saw the original lineup of the Terrapin Family Band fittingly reuniting at their namesake venue, Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California.

The original Terrapin Family Band lineup features bassist Phil Lesh, guitarists Grahame Lesh and Ross James, drummer Alex Koford and keyboardist Jason Crosby. And this band can cook. The quintet kicked things off with “Casey Jones” followed by the Cannon’s Jug Stompers “Big Railroad Blues.” A tight “Jack Straw” then led into Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.” The Terrapin Family band then took it back with “Born Cross-Eyed,” then headed even further back with “Cream Puff War.”

The set continued with “St. Stephen” ahead of a choice cover of the David Crosby-penned CSNY number “Almost Cut My Hair.” Another Cannon’s Jug Stompers song in “Minglewood Blues” followed before the band returned to GD material with “Truckin.” “Bird Song” would count as the penultimate song of the show followed by a great set closer, Neil Young’s “Keep On Rockin’ In The Free World.”
