Bob Weir Guests With Phil Lesh, Jackie Greene & Terrapin Allstars At Terrapin Crossroads

Bob Weir joined his Grateful Dead bandmate Phil Lesh along with Jackie Greene and The Terrapin Allstars on Saturday. Weir helped Phil and the Terrapin Allstars close out a two concert stand at Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California.

The Terrapin Allstars — bassist Phil Lesh, guitarists Jackie Greene and Grahame Lesh, keyboardist Jason Crosby and drummer John Molo — welcomed Bobby to kick off the set with “St. Stephen” followed by “Uncle John’s Band.” Bobby, Phil, Jackie and Grahame harmonized on the sing-along tune with all three guitarists adding short runs between verses. Grahame took the first solo as the band dropped into the minor jam with Crosby adding some complimentary piano runs ahead of a retro-sounding front pickup solo from Greene before the band returned to the final vocal part.

Next up, Weir led The Terrapin Allstars through a mellow but funky “Shakedown Street.” After the first couple verses and choruses, the group dropped into a groove. The band then spread out through the form with Grahame taking the first ride before kicking it over to Jackie. Next, Grahame delivered a slide solo on the chorus and slid the band right back into the top of the form. The Terrapin allstars headed through the final verse and really got cookin’ on the chorus jam as Molo kicked it up a notch ahead of the song’s conclusion.

Weir departed and the Terrapin Allstars continued on with “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and “Wharf Rat.” Wilson Picket’s “Midnight Hour,” which was sung by Ron “Pigpen” McKernan back in the day, followed before the band returned to more Dead material in “Jack Straw.” Another Pigpen number in Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Turn On Your Lovelight” would count as the penultimate song of the set ahead of the classic closer, Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away.”
