Bassist Phil Lesh and guitarist Stu Allen led the latest “Thunder & Lightning” performance in the Grate Room at Phil’s Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California on Tuesday night. Lesh and Allen were joined by drummer Jay Lane, guitarist Neal Casal and keyboardist Holly Bowling for the latest installment of their on-going series.
The evening’s first of two sets began with Stu leading “Alabama Getaway.” Neal Casal then handled vocals on “West L.A. Fadeaway” ahead of a “Dupree’s Diamond Blues” sung by Allen. Next, the ensemble lit into “The Other One” and jammed the Anthem Of The Sun classic into “Pride Of Cucamonga.” Casal stepped into the spotlight once more to belt out “Stagger Lee” before a pairing of “Lazy River Road” and “When Push Comes To Shove” ended the set.

“Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” kicked off Tuesday’s closing frame. Then, Stu Allen and Holly Bowling shared vocal duties on “Jack Straw.” Allen sung the “Crazy Fingers” that followed, while Neal Casal was up front for “Eyes Of The World.” The ensemble went on to jam “St. Stephen” into a “New Speedway Boogie” that saw the band fit another taste of “The Other One” within. A raucous “Viola Lee Blues” and emotional “Days Between” brought the concert to its conclusion.
