Phil Lesh & Friends Re-Create Richmond 1985 With Scott Metzger
By Scott Bernstein Nov 2, 2015 • 1:50 pm PST
On Sunday night Phil Lesh & Friends concluded the first of two three-night stands at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. For last night’s finale the band was joined by guitarist Scott Metzger in re-creating the Grateful Dead show from 30 years prior at Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia.
The setlist from 11/1/85 included many songs Lesh & Friends don’t generally play including “High Time,” “Comes A Time,” “Gloria” and “Day Job.” Metzger gave the group someone to sing the Bob Weir songs and Scott filled the role well on such tunes as “Samson And Delilah,” “Me & My Uncle,” “Lost Sailor” and “Saint Of Circumstance.” In addition to Lesh and Metzger the band was rounded out by guitarists John Kadlecik and Stanley Jordan, keyboardist Jason Crosby and drummer Tony Leone. Kadlecik sang most of the Jerry songs and shared vocals with Lesh on “Gimme Some Lovin’,” “Brown-Eyed Women” and “He’s Gone.” John also led the band through a “Day Job” encore.
Phil Lesh will be joined by David Nelson, Barry Sless, Scott Law, Jason Crosby and John Molo at The Capitol Theatre on November 5 – 7.
