Phil Lesh & Friends Present Famed 1990 Grateful Dead Show At Terrapin Crossroads

Last night at his Terrapin Crossroads venue in San Rafael, California bassist Phil Lesh continued a series of concerts honoring each year of the Grateful Dead. Phil Lesh & Friends recreated a classic Dead show that originally took place on their Spring Tour in 1990.

As reported by Deadheadland, Phil led the ensemble through a performance in the Grate Room that replicated the setlist of the Grateful Dead’s March 29, 1990 concert held at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York 26 years ago. Joining Lesh was guitarists Stu Allen and Scott Law, keyboardist Scott Guberman and drummers Ezra Lipp and Alex Koford. The role of saxophonist Branford Marsalis – who made his debut with the Dead during the first set “Bird Song” at the Nassau show – was filled by Michael Mark Bello.

In addition to the first set horn-aided closer “Promised Land” the beginning half also featured the opener “Jack Straw” and the rarely performed Brent Mydland/John Perry Barlow original “We Can Run.” With Bello still sitting-in, set two took off with a take on “Eyes Of The World” – the original version of which was part of the Dead’s Without A Net live compilation album – followed by “Estimated Prophet” and an exploratory “Dark Star” filled with “Drums”/”Space.” The lively trio of “The Wheel,” “Throwing Stones” and “Turn On Your Lovelight” closed out the set and “Knocking On Heaven’s Door” took on the encore slot.

Tonight, Phil Lesh and a band featuring two keyboardists will re-create a Grateful Dead show from 1991 at Terrapin Crossroads. A live stream is available.
