Phil Lesh & Friends Pay Tribute To Grateful Dead 1972 At Terrapin
By Scott Bernstein Mar 29, 2015 • 9:20 am PDT

The evening started with Phil Lesh sharing a history lesson on 1972 in Grateful Dead history moderated by Jay Blakesberg that of course focused on the band’s famed Europe ’72 tour. Lesh and his ensemble then proceeded to run through the same series of songs the Grateful Dead did just over 43 years to the day on March 26, 1972 at the Academy Of Music in New York City. The Leshes, Allen, Chimenti and Lipp were joined by James on guitar at points during the performance and Koford came out to handle vocals on “The Stranger (Two Souls In Communion)” towards the end of the evening. A recording of the show Phil Lesh & Friends re-created last night is featured on Dave’s Picks Volume 14.
Phil Lesh & Friends honor Grateful Dead 1972 once again tonight with a bonus show. A webcast is available via venue’s online store.
