On Saturday night, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh continued a run of three performances at Brooklyn Bowl’s Las Vegas outpost. Friday and Saturday’s shows saw Lesh backed by a band featuring guitarists John Kadlecik and Stanley Jordan, multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby, fiddle player Boyd Tinsley and drummer John Molo ahead of today’s Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band finale. Last night’s performance saw the core band joined by guests throughout the show including vocalist Nicki Bluhm and Infamous Stringdusters Andy Hall and Andy Falco.
The band opened with a cover of The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun” before welcoming Bluhm for takes on “Cassidy” and “Birdsong.” Falco and Hall helped Phil & Friends close the first set with “Cumberland Blues” following “Uncle John’s Band” and “Blue Sky.” Phil and his band kicked off the second set with “The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)” before Hall emerged for “Viola Lee Blues.” Next up was “Shakedown Street” and a Nicki-led rendition of “Me & Bobby McGee.” Andy Hall returned to the stage for “Playing In The Band” and the first verse of “Dark Star.” Phil then sang one of his signature tunes, “Unbroken Chain,” ahead of The Beatles’ “Yesterday” and a second set-closing “I Know You Rider” featuring Hall and Falco.
Nicki Bluhm made her final appearance of the night on the “Amazing Grace” that began a two-song encore. Lesh had another turn in the spotlight as the show came to a close with a version of “Box Of Rain” with more contributions from Falco and Hall. Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band play a matinee show at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas starting around 1 p.m. PT. A live webcast is available via nugs.tv.
