Watch Phil Lesh & Friends Preview Warfield Show With ‘The Clubhouse Sessions – Episode 1’

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh will assemble his ever-changing Phil Lesh & Friends ensemble tonight for a show at The Warfield in San Francisco. Lesh previewed the concert by posting The Clubhouse Sessions – Episode 1 performance video featuring the lineup of musicians that will join him at The Warfield.

This evening’s Phil & Friends lineup will consist of Phil’s son, Grahame Lesh on guitar, alongside guitarist Daniel Donato, keyboardist Holly Bowling, vocalist Nicki Bluhm and drummer John Molo. Lesh announced the launch of Terrapin Clubhouse last November.

“I want to invite you all to join us in a trip that we’re planning called Terrapin Clubhouse,” Lesh said. “We’re going to be doing all kinds of things at the Terrapin Clubhouse, which is not officially a space by the way. The Clubhouse Sessions – Episode 1 is the first performance video posted since the launch last November. Lesh and his collaborators can be seen performing in a rehearsal space, running through several classic Grateful Dead songs.

The episode begins with Bluhm leading the group through a bouncing “U.S. Blues.” Donato then handles lead vocals on “Beat It Down The Line.” Continuing to pass around lead singing duties, Grahame Lesh and Bluhm traded off on the subsequent “Brown-Eyed Women.”

The group followed with Grahame guiding a performance of the Dead rarity “Mexicali Blues.” The session came to an end with Donato helming a laid-back, funky take on “They Love Each Other.”
