Phil Lesh & Friends Begin Phil-O-Ween Run At Capitol Theatre: Setlist & Full Show Audio

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh put together a band featuring many of his musical friends for a Phil-O-Ween run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Phil Lesh & Friends’ kicked off three-show stand at The Cap with a show featuring a varied setlist on Friday night.
Lesh along with guitarists Luther Dickinson and Larry Campbell, multi-instrumentalist Barry Sless, keyboardist Jason Crosby, drummer John Molo and vocalists Teresa Williams and Nicki Bluhm rolled through a pair of sets that weren’t too heavily focused on Grateful Dead material, but still had a handful of gems from the group’s live repertoire.
Phil & Friends opened with “Till The Morning Comes” from the Dead’s early days, a song Lesh hasn’t performed too often in any configuration. The first set rolled on with a country-tinged “Peggy-O” and rollicking “Cumberland Blues.” Dickinson then led the band featuring Larry on fiddle through “Rollin’ And Tumblin'” by Muddy Waters. Larry and Teresa fronted the group on Ike & Tina Turner’s “River Deep Mountain High” next before concluding the set with “Sugaree.”
For the second set, the ensemble began with “Casey Jones” ahead of McFee/Howell’s “Midnight Highway,” a song Teresa sang as she did at 2014 Phil Lesh & Friends performances. Next up was a “Crossroads” that ran over 18 minutes and a rare P&F take on “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed And Burning.” Phil and his band then ran through the beloved “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Franklin’s Tower” triumvirate to end the second set. After a Donor Rap, the group said farewell with a “Turn On Your Lovelight” encore.
