Kadlecik handled vocals on “Free” as he does when his John K. Band outfit covers the song. “Free,” along with another “Drums”/”Space” segment, served as the filling of an early second set “Dark Star” sandwich. Phil and the band jammed out “Free” ever so slightly before Jordan Levine came out to duel with Russo during the “Drums” section. After “Dark Star” came a “Scarlet Begonias” that led into a jam on Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” before “Fire On The Mountain.”
Listen to the beginning of the second set, including “Free”:
Set One: Hard To Handle, Second That Emotion, Sitting On Top Of The World, Althea, Beat It On Down The Line, Foolish Heart, Midnight Hour
Set Two: Cryptical Envelopment > Dark Star > Free > Drums > Space > Dark Star > Scarlet Begonias > (LMSNTY) Fire Jam > Fire On The Mountain, Morning Dew > I Know You Rider
Encore: Sugaree
