Perpetual Groove continued a string of reunion shows on Friday and Saturday nights at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. The group honored Scott Weiland by ceding the stage to frontman Brock Butler for a solo acoustic Stone Temple Pilots cover as part of Friday’s encore.
The quartet kicked off Friday’s show with a cover of “Release” by Pearl Jam that they segued into their own “Out Here.” PGroove focused on originals throughout the rest of the night with the exception of a cover of Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So” in the second set and Brock’s take on “Big Empty” by Stone Temple Pilots within the encore. The first set on Saturday started with “Save For One” while the rest of the opening stanza was a giant “Speed Queen” sandwich featuring a mix of originals such as “Robot Waltz” and “Paper Dolls” and covers including The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter” within. Saturday’s second set contained one classic after another and ended with a “Mr. Transistor” > “Echo” > “Mr. Transistor” sequence. PGroove said farewell with an encore consisting of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” and their own “Only Always.”
Perpetual Groove kicks off a three-night New Year’s Run in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve.
