Pearl Jam Welcomes Prince & 3rd Eye Girl Guitarist Again In Toronto

For the second show in a row, Seattle rockers Pearl Jam shared the stage with Prince & 3rd Eye Girl guitarist Donna Grantis at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Thursday night. Pearl Jam was supposed to play their second of two shows in Toronto on Wednesday night, but the concert was postponed by one night to allow the Toronto Raptors to host an NBA playoff game.

The band’s Toronto finale continued a trend of working at least a handful of tour debuts into each performance on the run thus far. On Thursday Pearl Jam dusted off “Cropduster” for the first time since October 16, 2013; “Green Disease” for the first time since June 28, 2014 and “Alone” for the first time since October 14, 2014. Frontman Eddie Vedder took a couple of opportunities to shout out Rush and Geddy Lee as the bassist watched the show from the side of the stage. Jeff Ament teased Rush’s “Cygnus X-1” at one point, while guitarist Mike McCready played a few bars of “Fly By Night.”

Donna Grantis, a Toronto native who moved to Minnesota when Prince asked her to join 3rd Eye Girl, sat-in on a cover of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” the evening’s penultimate song. Grantis had guested on a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” on Tuesday night.
