On the surface Pearl Jam and the Dave Matthews Band don’t have much in common. But when you look a little deeper you realize there are some connections. Both bands were formed within a year of each other and quickly found success. They are two top-selling acts who have forged their own paths both musically and in the music industry. Last night in Irvine, CA a member of Pearl Jam sat in with the Dave Matthews Band for the first time, when guitarist Mike McCready guested on “Rhyme & Reason” at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre.

DMB bassist Stefan Lessard not only considers McCready a good friend, but the two are actually band mates in cover band 1, 2, 3 GO! When McCready came out, 16 songs in DMB’s set, he occupied a space right next to Lessard and delivered powerful riffs throughout “Rhyme & Reason.” The Pearl Jam guitarist wasn’t the only guest last night, as Gary Clark Jr. sat in on “All Along The Watchtower” for the second time in as many nights and Bob Mintzer and Lasim Richards came out for “Jimi Thing.”
