Pearl Jam Fills Columbia Show With Nine Tour Debuts & Prince Tribute

Seattle rockers Pearl Jam continued Spring Tour last night at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina. The band dusted off nine tour debuts including a live debut of an Eddie Vedder solo song. Vedder also took a pair of opportunities to discuss Prince who died yesterday and Pearl Jam played a snippet of “Purple Rain” as part of their encore.

Pearl Jam opened the 32-song performance with the tour debut of “Oceans.” Other tour debuts played in the main set were “Immortality,” “Marker In The Sand” and “I Got Shit.” Vedder discussed Prince’s passing before “Light Years” and talked about what a great guitar player The Purple One was. Eddie took the stage by himself to start the encore with the first version of “Rise” he’s performed during a Pearl Jam show. The tour debut of “Sleight Of Hand” followed and the first encore also featured the tour debut of “All Those Yesterdays.”

Eddie spoke about Prince once again as his band mates riffed on “Purple Rain” to begin the second encore. Vedder mentioned Prince’s death reminded them of Andy Wood before the group launched into the tour debuts of Mother Love Bone classics “Chloe Dancer” and “Crown Of Thorns.” The show ended with the impressive sequence of “State Of Love & Trust,” “Black,” “Alive,” “Rockin’ In The Free World” and “Yellow Ledbetter.”
