Paul McCartney Wants To Be Last Rocker To Play Candlestick Park

San Francisco’s Candlestick Park has hosted many memorable events since opening in 1960,  one of which was The Beatles’ final concert on August 29, 1966. The venue is in its last days as it is scheduled to be demolished in 2014. Recently, former Beatle Paul McCartney offered to play Candlestick Park’s last show according to a SFGate report.

Macca made the offer to San Francisco mayor Ed Lee. “And it was him who made the suggestion,” Lee told SFGate. “Believe me, it wasn’t something I, or anyone else, was expecting.” The Mayor was meeting with Outside Lands organizer Gregg Perloff, who introduced him to McCartney before the former Wings front man’s OSL performance. When Lee told Macca that he planned to honor the Beatles’ last concert during Candlestick’s final days, McCartney floated the idea of a performance, “Well, if you are going to tear down the stadium next year, we should think about us doing the last concert there.”

We’ll see what actually happens, but we’re just glad Macca will continue performing into next year.
