Famed rocker Paul McCartney played a surprise show on Tuesday night at the cozy confines of Clube do Choro in Brasília, Brazil. The concert at the 500-capacity venue was the smallest he’s ever performed in the country.

Word of the intimate performance started spreading on Monday and tickets were sold on Tuesday. The 24-song show at Clube do Choro came before Macca takes the stage tomorrow at Brasília’s massive Mané Garrincha stadium for the official launch of the Brazilian leg of his Got Back Tour. Paul McCartney’s run through the South American country, his first shows in Brazil since 2019, also includes concerts in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro through December 16.

McCartney was joined by his longtime band consisting of Rusty Anderson, Paul “Wix” Wickens, Brian Ray and Abe Laboriel Jr. last night at the venue more akin to Liverpool’s Cavern Club than the large stadiums he’ll play later this year. Paul opened at Clube do Choro with “A Hard Day’s Night,” one of many Beatles classics to make the setlist. “Got To Get You Into My Life,” “Getting Better,” “Blackbird,” “Lady Madonna,” “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude” were among others from his time with the Fab Four played within Macca’s main set.

The 81-year-old musician also performed “Junior’s Farm,” “Letting Go,” “Let Me Roll It” and “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five” from his Wings days as well as solo gems “Come On To Me,” “My Valentine,” “Maybe I’m Amazed” and “Fuh You.” Macca and his band ended the night by treating fans to a five-song encore of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise),” “Helter Skelter” and the Abbey Road medley of “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight” and “The End.”
