Chrissie Hynde, Glen Hansard & More Join Star-Studded Patti Smith Tribute Lineup

Benmont Tench (Heartbreakers), Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan), Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith), Flea (RHCP) and Steve Jordan (Rolling Stones) will serve as the house band.

As reported, this year’s “Music Of” tribute concert People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith will take place at Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 26. The lineup for the all-star show has been expanded with the additions of Chrissie Hynde, Glen Hansard, Jim Jarmusch, Susanna Hoffs and Jesse Malin.

The newly added artists join an impressive roster that already included R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, The National’s Matt Berninger, Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, The KillsAlison Mosshart, Kronos Quartet, Ben Harper, Yeah Yeah YeahsKaren O, Kim Gordon and Angel Olsen. Honoree Patti Smith is also expected to perform.

An outrageous house band for the evening has been brought to the next level with a pair of new additions. Longtime Patti Smith collaborator Tony Shanahan will lead the ensemble and will be joined by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and The Rolling Stones drummer Steve Jordan as well as newly confirmed musicians former Bob Dylan guitarist Charlie Sexton and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench.

Impresario Michael Dorf puts together the annual “Music Of” concerts to raise funds for music education organizations such as Music Will, Young Audiences NY, Save the Music, D’Addario Foundation, and Church Street School of Music. A limited number of VIP tickets for the concert are still available. Additionally, City Winery will host a rehearsal show on March 25 with tickets going on sale next Thursday, January 30.
