Oteil Burbridge Announces New Album & Inaugural Oteil & Friends Tour
Bassist Oteil Burbridge has rounded up a number of his musical friends to form Oteil & Friends. The new band will hit the road this November for their debut tour in support of a new solo album entited Water In The Desert due out on October 20.
Burbridge is joined in the band by guitarist John Kadlecik, vocalist Alfreda Gerald, guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Melvin Seals and percussionist Weedie Braimah. The tour begins at the Ardmore Music Hall on October 31 in Philadelphia. From there, Oteil brings the band to Charleston, Athens, Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh and Silver Spring. The run continues with stops in Pittsburgh and Baltimore and New York City. Melvin Seals will not be performing on the November 6 and 9 dates.
Water In The Desert finds Oteil aided by his brother Kofi Burbridge on keys, Dave Yoke on guitar, Lil’ John Roberts, Sean O’Rourke on drums, Miguel Atwood Ferguson on strings and vocalists Alfreda Gerald and Mark Rivers. “I started writing the songs on this record about ten years ago,” said Burbridge. “They are all songs about love in some way; finding out how to love yourself, hoping that another loved one will love you just as you are, believing in someone when they find it hard to believe in themselves, love gone wrong, or finally finding the ‘perfect fit.’ I feel like every problem we have on earth in some way comes back to the lack of love. That’s really what this record is about.” Head here to pre-order the LP.
