Osiris Podcast Profile: Fear Of A Craft Beer Planet

Mike Finoia hosts the Osiris network’s Amigos podcast in which he talks about his love of music, life on the road as a standup comic and more. Below, Mike profiles fellow Osiris podcast, Fear Of A Craft Beer Planet.

I believe it was Mike Schmidt that so famously pronounced, “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain except Craft Beer and Podcasts.”

Lucky for Mr. Schmidt, the guys at Fear Of A Craft Beer Planet have combined the two into an addictive, informative and spontaneous program, hosted on the Osiris network.

Craft Beer is an ever-expanding industry. From the major players to the bathtub brewers, everyone is buzzing about local batches of beer. Hosts/childhood friends Jay Rose, Rob Forczek and Richard “the Rastafarian” Rabic have worked in the industry for years in many capacities, and they bring their refined tastes and in-depth experience to every episode. They even invite some of the world’s best brewers onto the show for a deep look at the brewing process, trade secrets and much more (Check out Episode #96 when Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman visits the show).

Now to ice this cake, these guys are music freaks! Just like us! They share a mutual affinity for improvisational music, classic rock, metal, hip hop and their discussions ebb and flow throughout each episode like a perfect playlist. Plus, they drink beers during each episode, so the gang gets a little loose as the episode goes on, which is always lots of fun.

The podcast also has one vital element; the glue in the proverbial magnet: Ryan Egan. Ryan works with Tonewood Brewery, (the sponsor and physical headquarters of the podcast) and on occasion he’ll head into the storage room, sit behind the mic, and join in on the shenanigans (Ryan is new to the jam band world and overhearing the guys try to explain “Walfredo” to him while his glasses fog up is priceless).

That said, what draws me most to this podcast is the hang. Life gets busy, and I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I miss those old important get together’s with my buddies over a few beers. These dudes are genuinely best friends, and cueing up an episode feels just like sliding up to the bar with my old pals, and I thank them for that. They were kind enough to invite me in for an episode.

So here’s to you, Fear Of A Craft Beer Planet! You keep serving them up, and I’ll keep knockin ’em back. Cheers!
