The War On Drugs Returns With New Single ‘Who’s That’

The War on Drugs released a new single, “Who’s That,” marking the band’s first new studio recording since 2022. The song was written and produced by band leader Adam Granduciel at his studio in Burbank, California.

The recording features Anthony Lamarca on drums, percussion and direct electric guitar; David Hartley on bass guitar and OP-1; Robbie Bennett on Wurlitzer and Mellotron; Jon Natchez on Hammond organ and baritone saxophone; Eliza Hardy Jones on backing vocals; Alex Fischel on piano and Lily Honigberg on violin. The single follows the band’s 2021 album I Don’t Live Here Anymore and the 2024 live album Live Drugs Again.

Granduciel also played lead and acoustic guitars, 6 and 12 string electric guitars, piano, Prophet, Juno 60, MS-20, Mellotron and percussion, in addition to lead vocals. Austin Asvanonda recorded the track, Jonathan Low mixed it and Ruairi O’Flaherty handled mastering.

“’Who’s That’ was written in 10 minutes somewhere between first coffee and school drop off,” Granduciel stated. “It’s a song about trying to love yourself despite things we can’t always control, like the anxiety, depression and self doubt that may stand in the way of living the life we truly desire.”
