One of the big stories from Night One of the tour was U2 guitarist The Edge falling off the side of the stage during the evening’s finale. Thankfully, The Edge was able to continue and appears unhurt:
As far as the music, U2 focused on material from their latest album Songs Of Innocence in the first set. There were plenty of classics from band’s back catalogue performed including hits “I Will Follow,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Mysterious Ways,” “Desire” and “With Or Without You.” News of guitarist B.B. King’s death hadn’t been announced before the show ended, so it will be interesting to see if U2 mentions The King tonight considering the role B.B. played in the 1988 film Rattle & Hum.
U2 interspersed snippets of covers into their own songs at numerous points throughout the show including “God Save The Queen” within “Vertigo,” “Burning Down The House” within “Mysterious Ways” and “Mother & Child Reunion” within “Where The Streets Have No Name.” The Irish rockers promised they’d mix it up more than usual this tour. We’ll soon see just how much.
