The report signed by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. A. Quinn Strobl indicates an autopsy revealed accidental “Fentanyl toxicity” as the primary cause of Prince’s death. The report also indicates the medication was “self-administered.” The press release also noted the local Carver County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate Prince’s death. Prince was born in Minneapolis on June 7, 1958 and he was just 57-years-old when he passed away at his Paisley Park complex outside Minneapolis on April 21. In the weeks leading up to his untimely death, Prince was forced to postpone two of his Piano & A Microphone concerts in Atlanta which at the time was reported as due to a bout of the flu. Soon after, Prince’s private plane was diverted in order to make an emergency landing after which he was immediately taken for treatment to a hospital in Moline, Illinois.
