Official Audio: Joe Russo Presents ‘Hooteroll? + Plus’ At Capitol Theatre

By Scott Bernstein Jun 13, 2017 8:02 am PDT

Back on April 7, drummer Joe Russo rounded up a number of his musical friends to perform music from Jerry Garcia and Howard Wales’ 1971 jazz-rock fusion album Hooteroll? and similar tunes including the debut of a Russo-penned original at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Today, an official “Ultra Mix” recording of the acclaimed performance has been shared on the Live Music Archive.

Russo’s band for the night saw him joined by Stuart Bogie (reeds/flute), Erik Deutsch (keyboards), Jonathan Goldberger (guitar), Dave Harrington (bass), Kevin Kendrick (vibraphone/percussion) and Jordan McLean (trumpet). The ensemble worked through songs from Hooteroll?, Russo’s “Song For Buddy” and material by Carly Bley, Gary Burton, Keith Jarrett and Miles Davis. Joe & Co. threw a “Whipping Post” jam into the second set for good measure.
