North Mississippi Allstars have detailed a new EP entitled Blues Dance Music. The just announced “sonically experimental” EP comes out this Friday, March 9.

Brothers Luther Dickinson and Cody Dickinson were motivated by a cover of the title track to their 2017 album Prayer For Peace that was performed by the Blind Boys Of Alabama. Described as taking, “listeners on a journey through gospel, blues and rock music that has been fused with dance hall beats,” Blues Dance Music includes live versions of Prayer For Peace tracks “Prayer For Peace,” “Miss Maybelle,” “Run Red Rooster” and the Royal Remix of “Need To Be Free” featuring Sharde Thomas, Rev Sekou, Al Kapone, Frayser Boy and DJ Spanish Fly that were infused with loops and programming.

The project was “An opportunity to explore this musical landscape with full realization,” said Cody Dickinson, adding it, “took on a life of its own — I think you can hear the excitement of discovery in the music.”
