Buck Ram initally wrote the original “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” lyrics in 1922 as a poem for his mother. Ram ran into lyricist Kim Gannon and composer Walter Kent at bar in 1941, where they talked about the poem Buck had written. Gannon and Kent adapted the poem into song form.
