New To YouTube: James Brown Guests With Dave Matthews Band In 2002
By Scott Bernstein Dec 30, 2015 • 7:30 am PST
Last week we shared a Flashback piece celebrating the anniversary of “Godfather Of Soul” James Brown’s guest appearance with the Dave Matthews Band at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 21, 2002. At the time of the post, just about one minute of low-quality video of the guest spot was available on YouTube. Yesterday, high-quality video of nearly the entire collaboration finally surfaced thanks in part to the efforts of ChesterCopperpot5.
The collaboration not only features Brown leading DMB through “Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine,” but also members of James’ Soul Generals ensemble and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe including Karl himself. In the video below, which is a screenshot of the footage that aired on the screens at the venue, we get to hear the crowd go wild, Brown exchange dance moves with Matthews and the members of DMB sporting huge grins throughout. Take a look:
Dave Matthews Band returns to the stage on February 4 in San Francisco.
