On Saturday night Neil Young played his second of two shows at Telluride’s Town Park which mark the legendary performer’s debut in the beautiful mountain town. Young and Promise Of The Real debuted four songs on Friday and not only tackled them again on Saturday but added a fifth new tune to the mix.
As with all Rebel Content Tour shows, the evening began with a series of solo performances from Neil Young. Promise Of The Real then came out for the bulk of the 23-song show. The solo portion contained the evening’s biggest surprise, the year’s first rendition of “Sugar Mountain.” Last night was the first time Neil played “Sugar Mountain” outside of Bridge School and Farm Aid benefits since 2003.
On Saturday the concert was split into two sets. The portion of the first set featuring POTR was heavy on new originals including the debut of “Indian Givers,” a song Young had released a video for a few weeks prior. Neil Young and Promise Of The Real’s first set concluded with a pair of classics, “Walk On” and “Winterlong.”
Saturday’s second set was filled with well-jammed favorites as “Down By The River,” “Cortez The Killer,” “F*!#in’ Up” and “Rockin’ In The Free World” were all included within. Neil and the band also performed a song tentatively titled “Peace Trail” that was debuted one night prior. Young and Promise Of The Real brought the weekend in Telluride to a close with a “Roll Another Number” encore.
The town of Telluride was excited to host Neil Young from youngsters to adults. Watch a group of third – sixth graders at Telluride Intermediate School team with teacher Tuck Gillett to perform “Harvest Moon”:
