Neil Young & Promise Of The Real Kick Off European Tour In Glasgow
By Scott Bernstein Jun 6, 2016 • 12:18 pm PDT
Last night, Neil Young and Promise of The Real began a lengthy European leg of their Rebel Content Tour at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Young’s performance followed a similar script to other Rebel Content shows as Neil started the night with a series of solo songs before welcoming Promise Of The Real including Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson for a large swath of the main set and the encore.
The legendary performer opened the night on piano for “After The Gold Rush” before moving over to acoustic guitar for “Heart Of Gold,” “Comes A Time” and “The Needle And The Damage Done.” Young played pump organ on “Mother Earth (Natural Anthem),” his last solo song of the set. Promise Of The Real came out for “Out On The Weekend,” the evening’s sixth song, and backed Neil for the remainder of the evening. Neil Young & Promise Of The Real continue to dig into the Canadian product’s massive back catalog with the ensemble’s first versions of “I’ve Been Waiting For You” and “After The Garden” mixed in with such classics as “Winterlong,” “Down By The River,” “Alabama” and “Love And Only Love.”
Young hadn’t performed “I’ve Been Waiting For You” in any format since June 6, 2009 and “After The Garden” since October 22, 2006. The band said farewell with a “Fuckin’ Up” encore. Neil Young & Promise Of The Real continue the tour tomorrow night at The SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
