Neil Young & Promise Of The Real Kick Off German Tour In Dresden

Neil Young and Promise of The Real opened a four-concert tour of Germany on Tuesday night at Elbufer in Dresden. The band presented a set of classic material and then treated fans to a 15+ minute version of “Like A Hurricane” as the encore.

Last night’s concert featured four 2019 debuts for Neil & POTR. After beginning the night with a run of “Mansion On The Hill,” “Powderfinger,” “Love To Burn,” “Alabama” and “Words,” the group reached for their first rendition of “Bad Fog Of Loneliness” since June 21, 2018. Next, Young went solo for “The Needle & The Damage Done,” a classic from 1972’s Harvest that Young last performed at a show featuring POTR way back on July 23, 2016. The next 2019 debut came soon thereafter as the group dusted off “Lotta Love” for the first time since September.

While Neil Young & Promise Of The Real played a number of new songs during their tour in May, Tuesday’s show didn’t feature any tunes debuted after 1994. The back half of last night’s set included a bevy of classics including “Winterlong,” “Cortez The Killer,” “Cinnamon Girl” and “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Young stopped “Cortez The Killer” quickly and the band went on to perform the song in full after Neil tuned his axe. A big surprise followed “Rockin’ In The Free World,” when Young & POTR performed “Powderfinger” for the second time in the same show. “Roll Another Number” and “Piece Of Crap,” the evening’s final 2019 debut, brought the set to a close. Then, Young and his band romped through “Like A Hurricane” for over 15 minutes.
