Neighbor & Assembly Of Dust Carefully Handle Traveling Wilburys Cover In Chicago

Neighbor and New England colleagues Assembly of Dust teamed up over the weekend for a pair of co-headlining shows at Martyr’s in Chicago. On Saturday, the second night run of the run came to a close with a collaborative cover of the Traveling Wilburys’ 1988 hit “Handle With Care.”

Reid Genauer and an AOD lineup that also featured guitarist Scott Law, bassist John Leccese and drummer Dave Diamond kicked off Saturday’s festivities with a 90-minute set. Joshua Knight joined the band on percussion for a few songs in the middle of the frame.

Neighbor opened their portion of the concert by performing the recently debuted original “Old Dog.” The band — keyboardist Richard James, bassist Dan Kelly, guitarist Lyle Brewer and drummer Dean Johnston — then rolled through “Carmelita” and “Broadway” ahead of the beloved “Mighty Apple Tree.”

The set continued with the hard-rocking “Headrush” and funky “Terror For Free.” Neighbor fans then gave newbies a “High Five Gauntlet” and reached back to their earliest days for “Lonely Rider.” Next, the quartet delivered their second version of “Exactly The Same” just three days after debuting the Nine Inch Nails cover. The ensuing “I Tried” featured a “Steel” tease before the band launched the song proper. A pairing of “Under The Moon” and “Planet Silver” brought the set to a close.

When Neighbor returned for the encore they were joined by Reid Genauer, Scott Law and Joshua Knight. The seven musicians wrapped the night with a “Handle With Care” encore. Dan Kelly sang the portion of the song originally sung by George Harrison while Reid Genauer took Roy Orbison’s part. Law and Brewer traded licks toward the end of the cover. Neighbor previously played and debuted “Handle With Care” to end a Neigbor 9 performance in Lowell, Massachusetts on August 16.
