Neal Francis will release a new EP entitled Sentimental Garbage via ATO Records on November 18. The Chicago-based singer-songwriter-pianist previewed the seven-song set by unveiling a double single featuring original “Very Fine, Pts. 1 & 2” and a cover of “Strawberry Letter 23.”

Sentimental Garbage consists of five tracks recorded during the sessions that yielded Francis’ 2021 sophomore full-length album, In Plain Sight, as well as new covers of Shuggie Otis’ “Strawberry Letter 23” and The Three Degrees’ “Collage.” In Plain Sight and the originals on the upcoming EP were captured at The Parsonage, Neal’s studio at Chicago’s St. Peter’s Church.

“Sentimental Garbage was the working title of our last LP,” noted Francis in a press release adding, “which includes the track of the same name. We ended up calling that record In Plain Sight while removing the title track from the sequence. I knew this was my last chance to slap Sentimental Garbage on a record jacket, the thought of which always brought me great joy. It also works because this record is compiled of bittersweet scraps. I guess we could have also titled the record Burnt Ends.”
