Stream Neal Casal’s Final Solo Recordings

Singer-songwriter Neal Casal‘s last two solo recordings “Everything Is Moving” and “Green Moon,” have been issued today on streaming services via Royal Potato Family. “Everything Is Moving” comes accompanied by a video directed by Ray Foley consisting of footage from throughout Neal’s career.

Casal began work on both tracks in the years before his passing in 2019 during time off from runs with Circles Around The Sun and Chris Robinson Brotherhood. While the songs were left uncompleted, a handful of his closest friends and musical collaborators helped take the tracks to the finish line. Limited edition vinyl featuring both songs is due out on February 26th through the Neal Casal Music Foundation and is currently available for pre-order.

“Everything Is Moving” dates back to February 2013 sessions at The Stable At Studio G in Williamsburg. Casal was backed on Jon Graboff on acoustic guitar, bassist Jeff Hill and drummer Joe Russo for the initial sessions. Graboff contributed pedal steel and electric guitar parts this past July with John Ginty adding piano and Hammond B-3 organ to complete the track, which also features harmony vocals from Jeff Hill and Jena Kraus.

Neal started putting together “Green Moon” at Castaway 7 Studios in Ventura, California during the summer of 2016. Casal recorded lead and backing vocals as well as acoustic and electric guitars and piano. Bassist Jeff Hill and drummer George Sluppick added parts that were recorded this past October to finish the track.

“Working on these songs has been truly cathartic for me as I continue to process the loss of my dear friend,” noted Jeff Hill in a statement. “Neal writes in ‘Everything Is Moving,’ ‘I am just a shadow on the wall, you won’t even think of me at all.’ As much as Neal’s lyrics can be eerily prophetic of the tragedy to come, he was wrong. So many of us will be thinking of Neal for decades to come.” JP Hesser and Jim Scott helped mix what stand as Casal’s final solo recordings.
