12-year-old Nandi Bushell shared a drum cover of Duke Ellington’s “Caravan.” In her notes accompanying the video, Bushell wrote that the iconic Ellington number was the “most difficult drum cover I have ever made.”

That’s saying a lot as Nandi has recently tackled Neil Peart’s work on the Rush classic “Tom Sawyer” and showed off her multi-instrumentalist skills on Stevie Wonder’s own tribute to jazz greats and Duke Ellington, “Sir Duke.” But the “Caravan” arrangement Bushell delivered is certainly next level.

Nandi detailed the rigorous training she went through to pull off Ellington’s “Caravan” and noted that she was inspired by the jazz-drumming-centric film Whiplash:

“Learning Caravan from the movie Whiplash took me 3 months. First I needed to learn new techniques, then memorise all the sheet music. I[t] was hard! I pushed myself and practiced so much. It took a week of trying to film. This song takes so much energy and stamina. I needed to concentrate like I had never concentrated before. It was not easy! I kept on practicing. I love to keep improving and getting better. I wonder how I will play this song in a few more years.”
