Foo Fighters saved a longtime favorite cover for the finale of their four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band performed Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” on Thursday’s episode, returning to a song they first recorded nearly three decades ago.

Rafferty released “Baker Street” in 1978 on his second solo album, City To City. The Scottish singer-songwriter’s signature hit reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, helping propel the album to No. 1. Raphael Ravenscroft played the instantly recognizable saxophone melody that became a defining feature of the original recording.

Foo Fighters’ connection to “Baker Street” dates to an April 30, 1997 session at London’s Maida Vale Studios for BBC Radio 1’s Evening Session. Their recording appeared on versions of the “My Hero” single in 1998 and later found a home on Medium Rare, the band’s covers compilation issued for Record Store Day in 2011.

While “Baker Street” has remained a rarity in Foo Fighters’ live repertoire, the band revived the cover on October 17 at the Hollywood Palladium during the Silverlake Conservatory of Music’s 25th anniversary benefit. The performance was billed as a Dave Grohl solo appearance, but his Foo Fighters bandmates joined him for a set of originals and covers.

Grohl previewed the Kimmel selection during his interview with the host on Monday, calling “Baker Street” one of his favorite songs. The cover capped a residency that began with “Window” on Monday, followed by debut single “This Is A Call” on Tuesday and “Your Favorite Toy” on Wednesday. “Window” and “Your Favorite Toy” appear on the band’s latest album, Your Favorite Toy, which arrived in April.

The performance, filmed on October 26, aired the same night Grohl played drums with Aerosmith during the band’s triumphant return to the stage at Hollywood Bowl. Watch Foo Fighters perform Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” on Jimmy Kimmel Live below:

Foo Fighters next head to Australia for a run beginning November 5 in Brisbane. They will return to Southern California for KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas at the Kia Forum on December 12, with additional touring in New Zealand, Australia, India and South America scheduled for early 2027.
