My Morning Jacket Opens One Big Holiday 2017 With Debut Covers & More: Photos, Videos & Setlist

One Big Holiday :: 02.04.17 :: Hard Rock Hotel :: Riviera Maya, Mexico

The 2017 installment of My Morning Jacket‘s One Big Holiday destination event began on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Lucius kicked off the action on the Main Stage before MMJ’s first set of the event and of 2017. My Morning Jacket started their lengthy set with a debut cover of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” featuring members of Lucius and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Jim James & Co. then rolled through a set that included classics, more recent material from The Waterfall and a handful of choice covers. The Lucius singers added to a version of “Golden” that gave way to The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun” played to the tune of “Golden.”

Later in MMJ’s set, the ladies of Lucius emerged again to add to a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” The ladies and members of Pres Hall came out again at the end of the set for a take on Prince’s “Purple Rain.” Jim James started the evening’s encore with a few solo selections ahead of a wild “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream, Part 1” > “Cobra” > “Dancefloors” > “Phone Went West” sequence. For the finale, My Morning Jacket and their guests presented a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.” The action at Day One of One Big Holiday ended with a Preservation Hall Jazz Band set at the Heaven Terrace stage.
