Last night, My Morning Jacket kicked off a three-night stand at the Masonic in San Francisco. The band dug deep into the back catalog to fill the show with a number of songs that have been rarities on the current The Waterfall Tour as they set themselves up for what may be a repeat-less run.
https://instagram.com/p/84_GrwKoKE/While most shows on the tour have focused on material from the recently released The Waterfall, MMJ played five songs from 2001’s At Dawn last night in the Bay. My Morning Jacket set the At Dawn pace from the start by opening with the title track off their sophomore studio album and following it up with “Bermuda Highway” from the same LP. The main set also included the tour’s second rendition of the Jim James solo tune “A New Life” just one show after the song’s tour debut in L.A. Other rarities featured last night were “X-Mas Curtain” (sixth of tour), “Old Sept. Blues” (second of tour and first since June), the tour debut of “Picture Of You,” “They Ran,” “Lowdown” and the second “Quick Like A Flash” of the year.
Last night’s five song encore included guitarist Carl Broemel’s “Carried Away,” The New Basement Tapes tune “Down On The Bottom” and oldies “Knot Came Loose,” “Slow Slow Tune” and “Phone Went West.” The tour and run continues tonight in San Francisco.
