My Morning Jacket Debuts ‘State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.) ‘ In Seattle

The Moore Theatre in Seattle hosted My Morning Jacket on Friday and Saturday night as the band continued its The Waterfall Tour. Saturday’s encore included the band’s debut live performance of “State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.),” a song first released on frontman Jim James’ last solo album.
Well-paired opening act Strand Of Oaks delivered an energizing warmup set, frontman Timothy Showalter expressed to the crowd how much the experience of playing at the venue with My Morning Jacket meant to him. Like Friday night’s more exploratory and jammed out show, Saturday’s repeat-free MMJ set featured songs from throughout the band’s career, along with several cuts from their recently issued LP The Waterfall like “Believe (Nobody Knows),” “Get The Point” and “In Its Infancy (The Waterfall).” Fan favorites “Off The Record,” “Evil Urges,” “Dancefloors,” “Golden” and an extended, set-closing “Steam Engine” highlighted the main set.
The band launched the encore with “Victory Dance” ahead of the My Morning Jacket debut of “State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.)” which James released as the opening track to his 2013 solo album Regions of Light and Sound of God and had performed live on his solo tour. The inspired first performance of the hypnotic tune was followed by a loud and forceful “Holding On To Black Metal,” “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 2” and the swirling guitar assault of the show closing “One Big Holiday.”
