My Morning Jacket Busts Out The Velvet Underground Cover
By Andy Kahn Oct 18, 2015 • 2:00 pm PDT
Ever since loading the One Big Holiday setlists with covers in Mexico to start the year, My Morning Jacket have shied away from covers for the most part on their current The Waterfall Tour. The band made an exception on Saturday night as they ended a repeat-less, three-night stand at The Masonic in San Francisco.
The recently reunited Fruit Bats have been opening for MMJ this autumn including at The Masonic. Jim James & Co. brought out the opening act’s frontman, Eric Johnson, on Friday night for both Fruit Bats’ “Wild Honey” and MMJ’s “Wonderful (The Way I Feel).” Then, on Saturday, Johnson emerged towards the end of the Louisville rockers’ set for “Oh! Sweet Nuthin’.” My Morning Jacket had last performed The Velvet Underground song way back on January 27, 2014 at the inaugural One Big Holiday destination event in Mexico. “Oh! Sweet Nuthin'” and one- timer covers of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” and Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up” stand as the only covers MMJ has played this tour.
