Last night, Mumford & Sons wrapped up their four-stop 2025 Railroad Revival Tour at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, Vermont. The English trio and their star-studded tourmates shined a light of some of the state’s most beloved artists by sharing the stage with Noah Kahan, Grace Potter and Phish bassist Mike Gordon.

All four shows of this year’s Railroad Revival Tour, which followed the original trek in 2011, featured Mumford & Sons, Celisse, Chris Thile, Ketch Secor, Leif Vollebekk, Lucius, Madison Cunningham, Nathaniel Rateliff and Trombone Shorty performing in various configurations. Last-minute surprise additions were announced just before the run with Lainey Wilson appearing in New Orleans on August 3, Darius Rucker playing in Simpsonville (South Carolina) on August 4, Maggie Rogers joining the tour starting in Richmond on August 5 and Vermont-native Noah Kahan part of the action on Thursday in Essex Junction.

While the officially confirmed lineup was already outstanding, Kahan’s fellow Vermonters Grace Potter, Mike Gordon and his daughter Tessa Gordon also took the stage as surprise guests at the Champlain Valley Expo. Mike and Tessa joined Marcus Mumford and an assemblage of the evening’s other performers in singing Gillian Welch’s “Look At Miss Ohio.”

Grace Potter went solo for her classic song “Nothing But The Water (I)” and the new, unreleased tune “Pegasus” before she returned to add to other portions of the show. Additional pre-Kahan and Mumford highlights were Celisse leading the house band and Potter on Bill Withers’ “Use Me,” Ketch Secor fronting a performance of “Wagon Wheel” with his tourmates, Nathaniel Rateliff belting out “S.O.B.” and Lucius teaming with Rateliff on R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” and Cunningham on “Dusty Trails.”

Lucius’ Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe returned the favor by joining Madison Cunningham for a take on the Neil Young deep cut “Wrecking Ball.” Maggie Rogers welcomed Vollebekk for “Southern Star,” Rateliff for “Don’t Forget Me” and a cover of James Taylor’s “Carolina In My Mind” and performed “Different Kind Of World” with several Railroad Revival Tour participants.

Noah Kahan played a five-song set in Essex Junction with the house band. After opening with “Orange Juice,” Kahan sang “Paul Revere” with Marcus Mumford. He then performed “Maine” and was backed by Mumford & Sons and company on his beloved hit “Stick Season” before he closed his mini-set with “Young Blood.”

Mumford & Sons unfurled a nine-song performance to punctuate the tour in Vermont. The band ran through “Little Lion Man,” “Rushmere,” “Caroline” and “Lover The Light,” with Secor co-starring on the latter. Next came “The Cave,” “Ditmas” and “The Wolf” ahead of Kahan’s return for the show-closing pairing of “I Will Wait” and “Awake My Soul” featuring the Railroad Revival Tour house band.
