Mumford & Sons Honor Merle Haggard With ‘Okie From Muskogee’ Cover

On Wednesday the music world lost a legend, when Merle Haggard died on his 79th birthday. Mumford & Sons were one of many artists influenced by Haggard and they paid tribute to the Outlaw Country great on Wednesday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Fittingly, Mumford & Sons served up a cover of Haggard’s “Okie From Muskogee” towards the middle of Wednesday night’s show at Tulsa’s BOK Center. The Brits were joined by Blake Mills and Stuart Johnson for “Okie From Muskogee” as well as “Broken Crown” and “Awake My Soul.” Mills returned later in the night to assist Mumford & Sons on a cover of “I’m On Fire” as part of the evening’s encore.
