My Morning Jacket Debuts David Bowie Cover & Busts Out Prince Cover In Louisville

Friday night Louisville rockers My Morning Jacket played the second of two consecutive shows in their hometown at Iroquois Amphitheater. Last evening’s concert saw the band again covering Prince, this time busting out a song they had shelved since 2012 as well as debuting a song recorded by David Bowie.

My Morning Jacket opened the concert with “Victory Dance” and proceeded through a different mix of songs from Thursday night, playing just two tracks from their 2015 album The Waterfall – “Believe (Nobody Knows)” and “In Its Infancy (The Waterfall).” Frontman Jim James led favorites like a solo acoustic rendition of “I Will Be There When You Die,” along with “I’m Amazed,” “Golden,” “Steam Engine” and the main set closer “Dancefloors.”

The encore began with “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2” before MMJ was joined by the members of opening act Twin Limb for the band’s second performance of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” which they first played shortly after The Purple One’s death last month. Following “Cobra” and “Highly Suspicious,” Twin Limb returned to join the band on their debut performance of “Young Americans” by the late David Bowie. The first rendition of the cover was followed by the bust out of Prince’s “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man” which MMJ last played live in 2012. The show concluded with “Anytime” and “One Big Holiday” featuring Squallis Puppeteers dancing on stage as the band capped their hometown run.

My Morning Jacket performs tonight at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta.
