moe. & Umphrey’s McGee Cover Black Sabbath At Great South Bay Music Festival

moe. teamed with friends Umphrey’s McGee for an Ozzy Osbourne tribute at the Great South Bay Music Festival on Saturday. The longtime collaborators delivered the Black Sabbath classic “The Wizard” at the Long Island event in Patchogue, New York.

moe. launched their set curated by bassist Rob Derhak with his “Ups And Downs,” a cut off Rob’s pandemic album Songs For Other People. A pairing of staples “George” and “Lazarus” followed.

Keyboardist Nate Wilson’s “In Stride” came next. moe. recorded the song for their latest studio album, 2025’s Circle Of Giants. The band stuck with their new record for a performance of “Band In The Sky.”

moe. then got the Ozzy tributes underway with a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes,” the band’s second performance of the song since debuting it in 2021, as per Phantasy Tour. Guitarist Al Schnier’s “Downward Facing Dog” was next on the agenda.

moe. then embarked on a seamless sequence beginning with guitarist Chuck Garvey’s “Hi and Lo” before they fit “The Pit” within “Tubing The River Styx.” The segment concluded with “Tailspin.”

Fellow Great South Bay performers Umphrey’s McGee, sans guitarist Jake Cinninger and percussionist Andy Farag, then joined moe. for the set-closer, a cover of Black Sabbath’s “The Wizard.” Their first play of the bluesy rocker since 2021, moe. has performed “The Wizard” seven times since debuting the song on NYE 2013. Just ahead of moe.’s performance, UM dedicated their full Great South Bay set to Ozzy and performed his “No More Tears.”

moe. percussionist Jim Loughlin fronted the collab on the track off the legendary band’s 1970 self-titled debut album while guitarist Brendan Bayliss reeled off a shreddy solo followed by a crunchy organ run from Joel Cummins.
