Hear Lukas Nelson Join moe. For Raucous ‘Mexico’ At Summer Camp
The collaboration came during the band’s Sunday afternoon set at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois.
moe. played their traditional Sunday afternoon set at this past weekend’s Summer Camp Music Festival at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. The sextet brought out guitarist Lukas Nelson to lend a hand on “Mexico” during their last set at the final Summer Camp.
As reported, Summer Camp 2023 was the final installment of the long-running festival. Moving forward organizers plan to host a “redefined camping and music experience at Three Sisters Park every Memorial Day starting in 2024 that will be presented by Summer Camp.” moe. has been one of the festival’s headliners since it was first held in 2001.
Lukas Nelson was at Three Sisters Park on Sunday for Willie Nelson‘s set at the event. moe. welcomed Lukas to the stage after opening with a run connecting “St. Augustine,” “Downward Facing Dog” and “Tambourine.”
Sunday’s “Mexico” spanned 16 minutes and included stellar guitar solos from Lukas Nelson as well as moe.’s Chuck Garvey and Al Schnier. Keyboardist Nate Wilson also inserted a dazzling piano solo of his own into the classic song detailing Schnier’s trip south of the border to celebrate his 21st birthday. Nelson took a second stab at “Mexico” and engaged in call-and-response with Garvey towards the conclusion of the song.
The six-piece ended the set after the collaboration by pairing a cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain” with fan-favorite “Buster.” moe. would join fellow Summer Camp co-host band Umphrey’s McGee for their “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” encore later in the night. Additionally, Schnier, Garvey, Wilson and Rob Derhak added vocals to a song as part of Willie Nelson’s set.
