By Andy Kahn Mar 1, 2020 • 8:43 am PST
moe.’s current West Coast run of shows continued on Saturday night with a concert at The Fillmore in San Francisco. The band capped the evening’s performance with an encore that began with the rarely played “Funky Reuben.”
Set one opened with a pairing of “All Roads Lead To Home” and “ATL.” They then paused for the only time in the set before dropping a continuous sequence of “Tubing The River Styx” into “Dangerous Game” into “Ricky Marten” into “Time Ed” and the closing “Y.O.Y.”
After setbreak, the band returned for the second set, which opened with “Wormwood.” The second slot was given to “St. Augustine,” followed by a standalone “New Hope For The New Year.” Elements of “Good Lovin’” were worked into the outro of a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin,’” which developed into a transitional segue into “Jazz Wank.” The band then shifted into “Farmer Ben” and punctuated the second half with “Timmy Tucker.”
Prior to the start of the encore, guitarist Al Schnier made his typical al.nouncements and then told the audience, “We’re going to play an old song from year zero,” and then added, “wish us luck.” The band then busted out “Funky Reuben” for the first time in nearly three years and over 150 shows, having last played the rarity that dates back to 1992 on March 4, 2017.
