moe. Debuts Elton John Cover at moe.down

moe. closed out the 17th annual installment of moe.down on Saturday at Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, New York. The jamband stalwarts welcomed bassist Rob Derhak‘s daughter Emma Derhak to debut an Elton John cover during their opening frame and teamed with Vermont-based vocalist Kat Wright on a pair of Pink Floyd tunes during their second set.

The five-piece act opened their penultimate moe.down set with a pair of fan-favorites teaming “Spine Of A Dog” with “Rebubula.” Emma Derhak took to the stage next to sing lead on “Bennie & The Jets” from John’s 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Emma had previously fronted the band on Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ In The Years” and subbed for her dad when he lost his voice earlier this year on “Okayalright.”

moe. teamed old and new school to kick off their final frame of the weekend with “New Hope For The New Year” and “Brent Black.” The quintet then welcomed Wright, who fronted the ensemble for takes on “Time” and “Breathe (Reprise)” from Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon. “Chromatic Nightmare,” which was debuted at the band’s The Electric Lemoe.nade Acid Test show came ahead of the set-closing pairing of the recently debuted “Crushing” and “Recreational Chemistry.”

The Buffalo-born act brought moe.down to an end with a three-song encore first delivering the seamless duo of “Not Coming Down” and “Okayalright.” The band had one more surprise up their sleeve as they dusted off their cover of the Blue Oyster Cult classic “Don’t Fear The Reaper.” The track from Agents of Fortune had been sitting on the shelf since March 13, 2015.
