One of the saddest events to take place in October was tragic and violent murders of scene fixtures “Chef Larry” Bressler and his wife Denise. The pair were allegedly killed by Larry’s cousin in Pasadena last month. moe. were one of many bands within the jam scene who were touched by Larry and the group dedicated a song to Bressler as part of their encore on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

Larry was a fixture at Jazz Fest and never hid his love of Cajun cooking and New Orleans music. moe. guitarist Al Schnier stepped to the mic at the beginning of Saturday’s encore at the Fonda in Los Angeles and dedicated a cover of The Meters’ funk workout “Cissy Strut” to Chef Larry. Watch how it went down thanks to fan-shot footage by Blisstanger:

moe. last covered “Cissy Strut” back on May 30, 2013 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. The band first performed their take on the NOLA classic at Tipitina’s in the Crescent City on February 17, 2001 and Saturday night’s take was 13th in moe. history.
