Several bands have developed Labor Day Weekend traditions over the years including Phish at Dick’s near Denver and Dave Matthews Band at The Gorge. moe. forged one of their own as headliners of the Adirondack Independence Music Festival in Lake George, New York since 2021. The trend continued on Saturday and Sunday with Saturday’s performance including a creatures-themed first set and the return of a Chuck Garvey-penned favorite.
moe. played two sets on both Saturday and Sunday, the second two days of the 2024 Adirondack Independence Music Festival. The band — guitarists Chuck Garvey and Al Schnier, bassist Rob Derhak, percussionist Jim Loughlin, keyboardist Nate Wilson and drummer Vinnie Amico — opened on Saturday with “Crab Eyes” and then dropped into “Yellow Tigers.”

When “Billy Goat” and “Bear Song” were linked to follow, fans began to sense a theme. Oldie “Spine Of A Dog” came next along with the recently debuted “Bat Country.” moe. sealed the frame with a “Moth” that encompassed “Godzilla,” a Blue Oyster Cult song about a fictional reptile.
Chuck Garvey stepped up to the mic to lead his bandmates through “All Roads Lead To Home” to start the second set on Saturday. moe. hadn’t performed the song since Garvey suffered a stroke in November of 2021 besides a version played on December 11, 2021 when Reid Genauer handled lead vocals — a span of 158 shows. Next up was the instrumental “Mar De Ma” and Schnier-penned “Tailspin.” The ensuing +20-minute “Timmmy Tucker” formed the improvisational bulk of the frame before a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” closed. moe. returned to punctuate the night with a “Puebla” encore.
