Drive-By Truckers' Patterson Hood and fellow singer-songwriter MJ Lenderman teamed up for a concert at Cistern Yard as part of the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. Lenderman brought out Hood at the end of the former’s set for a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” and returned during Hood’s main set to sit in on multiple songs.
Lenderman’s opening solo set featured five songs from his excellent 2024 album, Manning Fireworks. Lenderman, who often covers Hood’s song “Uncle Disney,” summoned Hood for the “Wish You Were Here” cover to close out his supporting set. Ben Hackett from Hood’s band The Sensurrounders added flute to the Pink Floyd cover.
Hood returned the favor during his subsequent set, bringing out Lenderman for “Uncle Disney” and “The Van Pelt Parties.” The latter appeared on Hood’s 2025 solo album, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, which was the source of most of his setlist. Hood also worked in songs from his Drive-By Truckers output, “Heathens,” and with the aid of Lenderman, “A World of Hurt” to end the show.
