Watch Mike Gordon & The Claypool Lennon Delirium Perform ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’

By Scott Bernstein May 7, 2019 7:40 am PDT

Phish bassist Mike Gordon joined The Claypool Lennon Delirium for a bass-heavy cover of The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” on Thursday night at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre. Fan-shot video of the entire collaboration has surfaced.

Gordon’s guest spot came during the same tour that featured Rush’s Geddy Lee adding to “Tomorrow Never Knows” in Toronto on April 10. Les Claypool held down the bottom end in New Orleans, which gave Mike ample opportunity to focus on fills. Meanwhile, Sean Lennon played brash guitar figures on the song his father, John Lennon wrote with Paul McCartney to close out Revolver.

Sean took a solo after Les sang the first four verses and then Lennon belted out the song’s final three verses. Another solo from Sean followed and included teases of Jimi Hendrix’s “Third Stone From The Sun.” At the six-minute mark, Claypool and Gordon engaged in a bass duel. Eventually, Sean tore into dirty licks while Les vacated the stage leaving Mike as the solo bassist to conclude “Tomorrow Never Knows.” Watch video of the guest spot captured by jackel7777:
